SARATOGA SPRINGS The city's Housing Authority is renovating one of the housing units it recently acquired as the city's first affordable housing purchase.
The work at 39 Allen Drive will make the building, which houses four apartments, more energy efficient, said Edward Spychalski, director of the housing authority.
"Everything's going to be high-efficiency, Energy Star-type equipment put in," he said. The home is getting a new roof and new insulation as well.
Spychalski expects the rest of the 28 units to eventually get the same treatment, possibly with Community Development Block Grants in the future.
The nonprofit Saratoga Affordable Housing Group paid $2.3 million for the homes this summer, and the housing authority will manage them.
Some residents get Section 8 housing assistance and others pay $700 a month for the apartments.
