Rainfall totals recorded at Albany International Airport show last month tied as the 10th wettest July on record, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologist George Maglaras said this morning 6.94 inches of rain was measured last month, nearly twice the average of 3.5 inches.

June wasn't as momentous, but it was also wet, Maglaras said, dropping 5.45 inches of rain compared to the average for June of 3.74.

"June didn't make it anywhere near the top 10," Maglaras said.

Though it's unclear what August will bring, Maglaras said it's likely to start out with a rainy weekend.

"There's another system coming through on Saturday. It could be relatively wet," he said. "It's a fairly energetic system, so there could be a lot of showers around, even some thunderstorms. It's a pretty good chance that just about everyone will get some showers tomorrow."

Town of Florida farmer James Gasner said recent weather has been decent, aside from the difficulty rain places on baling hay.

"Crops are doing excellent," said Gasner, who grows primarily corn and soybeans. "We've had the right weather. We've had the heat, we've had the rain, it's perfect."

The high rainfall totals for July can be partially attributed to storms on July 23 and 24 that dropped 3.14 inches of rain on the Capital Region, Maglaras said.

"That was almost the average monthly total in that one 24-hour period," he said.
