— A 33-year-old Schenectady teacher was chosen as Mrs. New York America on Tuesday night.

Kerry Lyn Boettcher topped a field of eight other married women from across the state at the RIT Inn and Conference Center. The women competed in interview, evening gown and swimwear categories.

Boettcher, a teacher at Mont Pleasant Middle School, will now compete for the title of Mrs. America on Sept. 2 in Tucson, Ariz. The pageant will air on the Women's Entertainment Network.

She will also make statewide appearances over the next year to promote her pageant platform of literacy in low socio-economic areas.
