— The body of an 87-year-old man who had been missing since Tuesday was discovered this morning at the base of a cliff in John Boyd Thacher State Park.

The body of Akiho Miyashiro of Albany was found at 11 a.m. at near the Glen Doone Overlook, said Albany County Sheriff James Campbell.

"He was found quite a way down a ledge and may have accidentally fallen," Campbell said.

Miyashiro was reported missing at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and was last seen at the overlook’s picnic area.

Search and rescue crews combed the park Wednesday, but heavy rains and fog hampered the search.

Miyashiro, a former University at Albany professor, was a frequent visitor to the park, officials said, and was there with his wife when he decided to go for a walk.
