MENANDS A 61-year old woman was able to pull herself out of her vehicle on Monday morning after it fell 20 feet from a parking garage on Broadway and landed on its roof.
The woman, whose identity was withheld until her family could be notified, was in serious condition with back and neck injuries at Albany Medical Center, police said.
The accident occurred at 8: 30 a.m. Monday at the Riverview Center, located in the former Montgomery Ward building at 150 Broadway.
The woman, who is employed at the state Office of the Medicaid Inspector General, pulled into her parking spot, ran through the guide rail and her vehicle fell onto the pavement 20 feet below, according to Police Sgt. F.X. Lacosse.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
“The vehicle wasn’t dangling. It went over the edge and flipped over on its roof. It fell from the second floor of the parking garage. She was able to get out of the vehicle,” said Wanda Fischer, spokeswoman at the state Office of the Medicaid Inspector General.
After the accident, other workers ran out and someone immediately called 911 from a cellphone.
