SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Egg will emphasize jazz along with traditional and contemporary world dance during its 2008-09 dance season.

The lineup of 15 events will include some recurring favorites such as Savion Glover and Pilobolus, as well as some artists new to the Egg, including Tapeire, a Celtic tap ensemble, and Belly Dance Superstars.

As usual, the Egg has broken down its dance events into series: “Dance New York,” “Dance the World” and “Family Dance.” The Egg discontinued its “Dance Close” series, which placed smaller ensembles on its more intimate Swyer Theatre.

The New York series, which doesn’t get started until 2009, will move to the rhythms of jazz and include guests from Chicago. Various styles of jazz dance — from African roots to swing and tap to Latin and modern — will be performed to live music. Among the artists will be Ronald K. Brown/Evidence with live music by the Nneena Freelon Quintet, Ballet Hispanico with live music by Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra featuring Arturo O’Farrill and Jump Rhythm Jazz Project led by Billy Seigenfeld.

The world lineup will run from traditional to contemporary with such ensembles as [bjm_danse] from Montreal, Nederlands Dans Theatre II from Amsterdam and Flamenco Vivo! Carlota Santana of New York and Madrid.

Finally, the family series, intended to introduce young people to dance in breezy concerts, will feature hip-hop crew “Break!,” New York Theatre Ballet’s “Cinderella” and “Buckets & Tap Shoes.”

Series can be purchased as a discounted package. However, dance enthusiasts can create their own series and receive the following discounts: Three or more performances is 10 percent off; five or more performances is 15 percent off, seven or more performances is 20 percent off and 10 or more performances is 25 percent off.
