Dear Friends:

I am delighted to send greetings to the readers of the 10th edition of The Student Gazette and to have an opportunity to contribute to this publication with a letter of welcome.

The Student Gazette offers young people from the Capital District a unique chance to explore the fascinating world of the communications arts. For those who have written or illustrated for this supplement, participating in this worthwhile project might be a great incentive to ultimately pursue a career in journalism or photojournalism.

Newspapers have always been , and will continue to be, an important and valuable source of information in our everyday lives. knowing your way around a newspaper keeps you fully aware of what is taking place in the world around you, and that knowledge is a powerful thing. Daily and weekly publications can play a significant role in keeping you apprised and involved in the events in your community. Newspapers also also offer an important medium for you opinions and ideas, and those of your friends and neighbors.

Great writing, and great reading, too, takes a lot of practice. the Student gazette offers both of these activities, with the added reward of seeing your effort acknowledged through the thrill of publication. You are the leaders of tomorrow and I encourage your creativity and your hard work. with faith in your self and in your abilities, you will undoubtedly enjoy the challenges ahead, knowing that you will make a positive difference in your community and in this world.

Congratulations on the publication of The Student Gazette 2008!

With warmest regards, and best wishes for success in your endeavors.

David A. Paterson

Governor
