— U.S. Border Patrol agents have seized $1 million worth of the club drug Ecstasy at a checkpoint set up on the Adirondack Northway.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say the drugs were found in shopping bags in the trunk of a vehicle stopped on Sunday afternoon at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 87 in Essex County, 90 miles north of Albany.

Two people were arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. DEA officials referred a request for additional information Tuesday to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A message left for federal prosecutors wasn’t immediately returned.

It was the second major Ecstasy bust in northern New York this month. Authorities seized $2 million worth of the drug Nov. 11 in neighboring Franklin County.
