— A Schuylerville man was indicted Monday on 460 charges in the sexual abuse of three young boys at his horse farm, authorities said.

Donald Nitchman, 48, of Haas Road, was indicted by a Saratoga County grand jury for alleged acts dating from August 2004 through June 2008.

Saratoga County District Attorney James A. Murphy III said a young boy and his parents reported Nitchman to police in June.

“He was arrested in June and when he was arraigned, the Saratoga town justice ordered him held in the county jail without bail, and that’s where he’s been,” Murphy said.

Nitchman faces 144 counts of endangering the welfare of a child as well as 316 separate counts of first-, second- and third-degree criminal sexual acts, sexual abuse, sexual misconduct and unlawful imprisonment.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Saratoga County Court Thursday morning, according to Murphy.

“This is a horrendous case and we are asking for no bail or very high bail during arraignment,” he said. “We had hoped to spare the boys from having to testify before the grand jury, but we couldn’t work out a plea.”

He said the boys did testify.

Murphy said Nitchman identified two additional boys after he was arrested on charges made by the first boy.

Nitchman could face more than 25 years in prison if convicted of the most serious charges against him.

According to the New York State Racing and Wagering Board, Nitchman was licensed as a race horse owner until May.

Spokesman Joe Mahoney said Nitchman’s license expired on May 7.

“If he were to reapply, given the nature of the charges against him, it is likely the staff would deny a license,” Mahoney said. “He could appeal to the board, but they would also likely take a dim view in light of the charge of this nature hanging over him.”

He said Nitchman had been a licensed owner from 1999 until his licensed expired this year.

“If his license was current, we would move swiftly to review it under these circumstances,” he said.
