CLIFTON PARK — Two men who police said robbed an M&T Bank office in Rensselaer County Tuesday afternoon were arrested a short time later when their car was involved in an accident at the intersection of routes 146 and 146A in Clifton Park.

The suspects were identified by police Tuesday night as Lucas G. Healy, 27, of Delaware Avenue in Troy, and Adam C. Ramundo, 37, of Caroline Avenue in Schenectady. Each was charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree grand larceny and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. They were being held in the Rensselaer County Jail.

Two men entered the M&T Bank at 1523 Route 67 in Schaghticoke shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday and demanded that the bank teller put money into bags the men brought with them, according to the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department.

No weapons were displayed and the men did not use a note.

The sheriff’s department said the men then left the bank in a dark-colored Cadillac.

Not long after information of the robbery was radioed to local police agencies, the Cadillac was spotted in Clifton Park by the state police. The state police pursued the car, assisted by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspects’ vehicle was involved in a multicar accident at the intersection of 146 and 146A and the two suspects were taken into police custody without incident. The money taken from the M&T Bank was recovered at the time of the men’s arrest. Police did not indicate whether the suspects or anyone else was injured in the accident.

The state police may file additional criminal charges against the suspects, according to the sheriff’s department.

Healy and Ramundo were arraigned in Schaghticoke Town Court prior to being taken to county jail.

After the bank robbery was reported to local police agencies, Mechanicville city police and Stillwater town police temporarily closed bridges across the Hudson River in an attempt to block the suspects’ escape.
