With the economy on a roller coaster ride, we need a candidate with a strong understanding of finances

With election season creeping up on us, several issues are beginning to rise to the top and dominate the discussion. Most of these issues are the so-called “pocket book” issues; property taxes, gas prices, rising food costs and health care costs. While these aren’t the only issues, they surely are some of the most important.

The best person to represent us in the state Assembly and lead us on these issues is Tony Jordan. As a financial advisor, I know that wasteful spending is the cause of many of the state’s problems. After talking with Tony, I was pleased to learn that he has a finance degree from Notre Dame and worked in the banking field for many years. We both understand that cuts must be made so that unfunded state mandates are no longer passed onto local communities.

When you combine his financial understanding with the fact that Tony is raising a family and owns his own business, he is an ideal candidate. I look forward to casting my vote for him in the Republican Primary on Sept. 9 and I hope you will do the same.

We don’t need another president with big tax breaks for ‘big oil’ and nothing for the middle class

McCain is offering more of the same economic policies we’ve gotten from President Bush for the last eight years. McCain thinks multimillionaires are members of the middle class, homeowners are to blame for the housing crisis and “Big Oil” needs more tax breaks but middle-class families don’t.

Maureen McCarthy did you know that with Obama your taxes would go up by 28%. That McCain wants to continue the Bush tax cuts while Obama wants them to end. Also if you listened to the answer that McCain gave he was only joking when he said 5 Mil. was middle class and he even went on to say that now people are going to take it out of context as I see you did. Obama has voted to raise taxes each and every time the vote went to the floor. Taxes are 17% lower under Bush than they were under Clinton who by the way had a Republican Congress and Senate.
