SCHENECTADY City police are still searching this morning for the person who shot and killed a 40-year old man early Labor Day.
Ulysses Canty was found dead inside a home at 933 Albany St. after police received a call at 7:25 a.m. Monday reporting that multiple shots had been fired. Canty is the sixth person killed in 2008 in Schenectady.
"There are no suspects and no one is in custody at this time," city police spokesman Lt. Brian Killcullen said this morning. "We are continuing to speak with anyone who might have information, and we will look to identify individuals with information and speak to them."
Kilcullen said no weapon has been recovered.
An autopsy determined Canty was first struck in the arm, but the bullet traveled into his chest and struck his heart. He died at Ellis Hospital.
Police have yet to verify Canty's address, as well.
"We're not sure where he called home," said Kilcullen, adding there is only one Ulysses Canty in Schenectady. Canty had been charged in late July with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
Canty is the sixth person killed in 2008 in Schenectady.
Police are seeking the public's help and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 788-6566.
