Saratoga needs judge with experience in city court

The best choice for Saratoga Springs City Court Judge this year is Matt Dorsey. Matt’s legal background and experience have prepared him well for this important position. Matt has broad range of legal experience in various areas of the law, which is important preparation for a judgeship. Matt also has specific experience working in city court representing criminal defendants, as well as formerly having worked as a prosecutor. In addition, Matt has handled a variety of landlord-tenant cases, as well as other small claims cases and other matters in city court and in other town courts throughout Saratoga County.

In addition to his legal experience, Matt has a long history of being active in our community. As a result, he knows the people and the institutions that make up our city. This knowledge is invaluable in being able to relate to all citizens, both inside and outside the courtroom, in a position such as city court judge.

Matt definitely has my support, and I ask that you give him your consideration for the important position of city court judge. Matt has the fairness, independence and experience we can count on.

More community awareness abouot suicide is needed

More needs to be done to prevent suicide, a public health problem that claims a life every 16 minutes in the United States. However, stigma and misconceptions about mental illnesses and suicide continue to be barriers.

In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Week, Sept. 8-14, I would like to use this time to encourage the public to learn more about suicide and ways to prevent it.

On Sept. 21, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will conduct one of their Out of the Darkness Community Walks here in Saratoga Springs starting at the Flat Track. This will be the fourth annual Walk for Rita and it promises to be a wonderful event. We encourage all in the community, whether you have been touched personally by suicide or not, to join us. Funds will support prevention research and education as well as other local prevention programs.

Together we can take steps to save lives. For more information visit www.outofthedarkness.org.
