SCHENECTADY The Daily Gazette cut eight full-time positions from its work force today.
Gazette General Manager Dan Beck said adverse business conditions led to the companywide layoffs. Financial reasons also led to a similar staff reduction this past June.
Employment at the newspaper, based in Schenectady, now stands at 151 full-time and 85 part-time workers.

How can this happen? To cover news events, you need more people, not less. Are newspapers just giving up? Are they even going to try to compete anymore? Or, are they just going to accept defeat and just print stories from the Associated Press?
