— The woman who did the payroll for the Wit's End Boutique has been charged by state police with padding her own salary.

Justine L. Wheeler, 40, of Ballston Lake, was arrested by state police Tuesday on charges that include four counts of third-degree grand larceny, one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, and five counts of first-degree falsifying business record, all felonies.

From 2007 to 2011, Wheeler is accused of over-reporting her hours worked. Police said one of Wheeler’s duties was to personally report payroll hours for the business. The alleged fraud wasn't discovered until the owner hired an accounting firm to examine the payroll, after she discovered discrepancies.

Police said that in 2007, Wheeler allegedly misappropriated $2,287; in 2008, the amount was $6,197; in 2009 , it was $1,096; in 2010, it was $4,963; and in 2011 the amount of misappropriate wages was $2,299.

Wheeler was charged with one count of third-degree grand larceny each year for 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011, and one count of fourth-degree grand larceny for 2009. There is one count of falsifying business records for each year, police said.

Wheeler was arraigned before Clifton Park Town Justice James Hughes and was released on her own recognizance pending a May 23 court appearance.
