— Five suspects are facing drug charges following early morning raids and searches today in the city of Amsterdam.

A regional SWAT team made up of officers from the Amsterdam Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office took four people into custody while executing arrest warrants, according to Amsterdam police.

Charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance were: Jose Ayala, 41, of 189 Church St.; Gabriel Almonte, 26, of 223 Division St.; Angel Quinones, AKA Junito, 30, of 18 Swan St.; Lisandro Garcia, AKA Lilo, 30, already incarcerated; and James Valentin, 37, of 8 Swan St.

Another suspect sought on drug sale charges remains at large, Amsterdam police spokesman Det. Lt. Kurt J. Conroy said.

Police are also thanking residents for bringing tips to them.

“With their cooperation, these investigations allow the Police Department to send a message that illegal drug operations will not be tolerated in our city,” Conroy said.
