Reddy, Shimabukuro among additions to Music Hall schedule

— Ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro and iconic singer Helen Reddy will be coming to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall early next year.

Shimabukuro is a virtuoso ukelele player who has redefined the instrument, combining elements of jazz, rock, classical, Hawaiian music and folk, and drawing comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. He’ll perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 11. Tickets $28, $24, and $15.

Reddy, the Australian-born singer/songwriter/actress/author, cemented her iconic pop culture status in the 1970s with her signature anthem “I Am Woman.” She’s had more than a dozen Top 40 hit recordings and starred in London’s West End, Royal Albert Hall, The London Palladium as well as on Broadway and New York Lincoln Center in her one woman shows.

Reddy will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21; tickets are $36 and $28, with $5 off for students.

The Hall announced other new additions to its 33rd annual Music at the Hall series:

• A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19. The orchestra is known for expanding the boundaries of orchestral repertoire from 12th century pieces to newly commissioned works. Tickets are $39, $35, $25 and $15, with $5 off for students.

• Michael Cooper in “Masked Marvels and Wondertales” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. This one-man extravaganza by the virtuoso mime features his breathtaking, handcrafted masks, original stories, outlandish stiltdancing, and a physical repertoire that ranges from the madcap to the sublime. Tickets $18, $14 student price $10.

• “As You Like It presented by The Acting Company in association with the Guthrie Theater, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13. Tickets are $36, $32, $28 and $15.

• Julie Fowlis, Music of the Scottish Isles at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. Tickets $25; $15 for students.

• Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. Tickets are $30, $25, $15, student price $15.
