Fort Edward police chief wounded in accidental shooting

Town Police Chief Walter Sanford accidentally shot himself in the left hand while cleaning a personal pistol Friday evening. Sanford, who is also a Whitehall village trustee, was at his home when the weapon discharged, according to Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy. Sanford then took a personal vehicle to Glens Falls Hospital, where he was treated for the wound and released.
