— Schenectady made respectable showings in two boys’ sprint relays, and Austin Lane of Greenwich finished second among “emerging elites” in the mile Friday in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T University.

Section II’s top hopefuls, including Colonie’s Kyle Plante, will be in action today in the championship events. In championship events Friday, Molly Shapiro of Schenectady (Emma Willard) posted a 38-31⁄4 in the triple to finish 17th in a field where five jumpers bettered 40 feet. Shaker was 17th in the girls’ sprint medley relay, running a 4:11.16.

The Schenectady boys finished second in their heat and placed fifth overall in the emerging elite 4 x 200 relay, clocking 1:30.29 with the foursome of Ammar Brown, Keilan McMillan-Moss, Jordan Moses and Malik Murray. Moses, Brown and Murray also hooked up with Muhktar Barros on an emerging elite 4 x 100 team that placed third in its heat in 44.64 and missed qualifying for the finals by two-hundredths of a second.

Lane, a senior, ran the mile in 4:17.44, a personal best, to finish behind Vincent Ciattei (4:15.10) of Baltimore.

Three Section II girls competed in the emerging elite pole vault on Thursday. Kara Snyder of Colonie cleared 11-5 and placed sixth. Maddesen Weeks of Shenendehowa made the challenging starting height of 10-51⁄4 on her second attempt, but went no higher, and Kendra Lizotte of Guilderland had three misses at opening height.
