Softball: Nisky turns back Mohonasen

Gabbie Litz and Stacy Gordon both drove in two runs, and combined with Jackie O’Brien on a three-hitter as Niskayuna beat Mohonasen, 6-1, in a Suburban Council game Friday.

Tara Kaysen drove in the run for Mohonasen.

Colonie assumed sole possession of first place in the SC South with a 10-2 win over Ballston Spa.

Kassidy Ogren homered and drove in four runs for the 9-2 Lady Raiders. Stephanie Reinhardt added two hits and two RBI for Colonie.

Mikayla Simek had two hits and an RBI for Ballston Spa.

Caitlin Cooper took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and went 3-for-3 with a home run at the plate, leading Columbia past Saratoga Springs, 6-0.

Cooper gave up a leadoff single to Saratoga catcher Sara Willner-Giwerc in the seventh. She struck out 14 and walked only one.

Natasha Schultz and Haley Van Vorst both added two hits for 8-3 Columbia.

Amanda Augustson and Melissa Morgan hit solo homers, and Erica Daigle threw a three-hitter as Shenendehowa beat Averill Park, 3-1.

Daigle struck out nine, and the Lady Plainsmen improved to 10-1.

Freshman Alina Germinerio hit her third home run of the season, a two-run shot, as Troy downed Amsterdam, 7-1, in the Big 10.

Jessica Marsh added a two-run double for 6-2 Troy. Amanda Mullarkey had three singles for Amsterdam.

Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk edged Voorheesville, 2-1, in the Colonial Council, scoring the winning run in the sixth inning without the benefit of a hit.

Meghan Pentalk walked, moved up on a wild pitch and passed ball and scored on a two-out error.

Sam Filkins singled in the other run, and shortstop Kourtney Irwin made a handful of terrific defensive plays, capped by a game-ender on a ball hit into the hole with runners at the corners and two out.

Voorheesville pitcher Amanda Gatt gave up just three hits and struck out 15.

Rachel Molloy threw a five-hit shutout as Queensbury beat Scotia-Glenville, 5-0, to even its Foothills Council record at 4-4.

Anna Husain threw a four-hitter as Mayfield beat Fort Plain, 3-0, in the Western Athletic Conference.

Leanna Knapp and Jamie Luckner both had an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning as St. Johnsville edged Sharon Springs, 9-7, in the WAC.

Renee Handy had four hits and drove in three runs for the Lady Spartans.

Schoharie scored six runs in the sixth inning, and two in the eighth to beat Saratoga Central Catholic, 11-10.

Briana Borst hit a home frun for Schoharie. Katie Gregorio hit a home run to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh for the Lady Saints.

Megan Yattaw had four singles and drove in four runs as Waterford-Halfmoon defeated New Leb­anon, 14-2, to go to 10-1 in the Central Hudson Valley League.
