Plante wins 100-meter showdown
COLONIE Kyle Plante of the host Garnet Raiders tied her own meet record in a winning 100-meter dual with Albany ace Natasia Brown at Saturday’s 47th annual Colonie Relay Carnival.
Plante ran an 11.8, and Brown clocked an 11.9 for Section II’s fastest times this season, while Plante equalled the meet mark she set in 2010.
Plante was also a member of Colonie’s sprint medley relay group that set a meet record in 4:06.7, and a winning 300 hurdles relay (47.8).
Shaker kept its invitational win streak intact with 106 points as Emma Torncello, Emily VanDenburgh and Danielle McLean joined for meet records in the triple jump at 104-71⁄4 and long jump at 51-13⁄4. VanDenburg set a met record with an 18-31⁄2 in the long jump, and, with McLean, Torncello and Kristen Hayes, won the 800 (1:46.8).
Shaker’s Maryanna Lansing won the invitational 1,500 (4:47.7) ahead of Colonie’s Kaitie Schillaci. Schillaci joined with Alicia Bousa, Mik-eisha Kelly and Kirsten Kaminski on Colonie’s meet record-setting 1,600 relay (3:54.8). Bousa, Kelly and Kaminski completed Colonie’s sprint medley relay with Plante.
With Cathy Maloy anchoring, Holy Names set a 3,200 meet record with a 9:11.1, blowing away the mark of 9:17.2 Shenendehowa recorded last year. Kaitlin Close, Leah Triller and Kaylee Scott opened the race, and helped Holy Names top its Section II season’s best of 9:19.14 set last week.
Shenendehowa won the distance medley, 400 and pole vault relays, and Troy swept the weights relays.
Joe Carr tied his area own Section II best for the season with a winning 10.6 in the boys’ invit-ational 100, and helped Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake take the 800 (1:32.4). Buddy Herkenham of BH-BL won the invitational 1,600 (4:29.0).
Team champion Shaker had a big meet with wins in the 400, distance medley, high jump, pole vault and triple jump relays, while Saratoga Springs posted victories in the 6,400, 1,600 and 330 hurdle relays.
Marsh Galotta Invitational
Bishop Maginn senior Kayla Miller set a meet record with a winning 37-91⁄2 in the triple jump, and prevailed in three other events at SUNY-Cobleskill.
The meet’s outstanding female athlete won the 100 (13.1) and the long jump (15-11), and helped the Golden Griffins place first in the 400 relay (53.1).
Courtney Paser of meet host and team champion Middleburgh took outstanding female track honors with victories in the 800 (2:40.3), 1,500 (5:36.7) and 1,600 relay (4:24.8). Discus (106-7) champ Shania Marotta of Middleburgh was selected the outstanding female field athlete.
Jonathan Zapata of Middleburgh won the 400 hurdles with a meet-record run (58.0), took first in the 110 hurdles (16.4) and was tabbed the outstanding male track athlete. Outstanding field honors went to Schoharie’s Brendan Archer, the high jump (6-0) winner and shot put runner-up, and outstanding male athlete laurels went to Schoharie’s Skyler VanDerwerken, who notched wins in the 3,200 (10:12.1) and pole vault (11-0) and ran a leg on the Indians’ runner-up 1,600 relay.
Schoharie secured the boys’ team title.
Aaron Kippins of Bishop Maginn doubled in the triple jump and discus. Seth Bulich of Catskill doubled in the 800 and 1,600.
FONDA-FULTONVILLE RELAYS
Jason Lange, Matt Lange and Jordan Pantalone ran legs as Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons won both the distance medley relay in a meet-record 10:37.8 and 6,400 relay in a meet-record 18:24.1.
Matt White and Luis Laboy of Amsterdam won the long jump in a meet-record 40-5 1⁄2, helped the Rams take the 400 relay in a meet-record 43.4, and Laboy and Chris Rost won the triple jump at 79-93⁄4. Amsterdam also got a victory in the 1,600.
The host Braves got wins in the shot put and discus behind Tyler Cranker and Kyle Guiffre, and captured all three hurdle events. Other meet record were set by Columbia in the 400 relay (47.3) and 800 relay (1:33.0), and Scotia-Glenville (1:43.4) and Broadalbin-Perth (3:40.8) in the sprint medleys.
The Braves also won the girls’ shot put and discus behind Whitney Martuscello and Sarah Wyzomirski, as well as the 1,600, triple jump and 300 hurdles.
The Voorheesville girls won the 1,600, sprint medley and high jump relays. Lansingburgh won the 3,200, 800 and 1,200 hurdles. Greenwich set a meet record in the distance medley relay (12:53.0).
George Muse Relays
Drew Duguid of Bethlehem went 41-0 in the triple jump and 19-11 in the long jump for the top efforts in those events, schoolmates Parker Ruetz and Luke Mosca were best in the discus at 143-11 and pole vault at 13-3, Bethlehem’s Jake Abbuhl and Adrian Bergere shared high jump honors at 5-10, and the Eagles claimed boys’ running titles in the 6,400, 1,600, 800 and distance medley.
The Queensbury boys won the shuttle hurdle, 400 and 3,200 relays.
The Queensbury girls won the 6,400, 3,200, 800, shuttle hurdle and distance medley relays, and saw Olivia Paolino record the best marks in the triple jump (34-2) and pole vault (9-3).
Meet host Glens Falls had an individual standout in Zoe Doolittle, who was best in the discus (103-9) and shot put (35-9). Miranda Haraughty, Allyce Morrisey and Carina Singletary helped Glens Falls win the sprint medley and 1,600 relays.
