Stolen property charge brings prison time

— A 34-year-old Gansevoort man was sentenced Monday to 11⁄2 to three years in state prison on his guilty plea last month to fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Peter J. Coffman of 306 Cabin Drive was arrested by state police Dec. 27, 2011, for being in possession of more than $1,000 in stolen property. Police said the crime occurred Nov. 22, 2011, in the town of Wilton.

He was also sentenced to one year in state prison by Saratoga County Judge Jerry J. Scarano for violating his probation in a felony drug possession conviction in Warren County Court. That sentence will run concurrently with the stolen property sentence. He was also sentenced to two years of post-release supervision. He had been on probation on the drug possession conviction in Warren County.

In other Saratoga County Court action Monday:

--  Eric J. Welch, 38, of County Route 75 in Mechanicville was sentenced to one to three years in state prison after admitting last month that he violated the conditions of his parole after being convicted of first-degree sexual abuse in 2005. He had been sentenced to six months in county jail and 10 years’ probation on the sex abuse charge.

--  Eric D. McCleary, 43, of Walworth Street in Saratoga Springs pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal possession of stolen property stemming from his arrest March 9 in Saratoga Springs by city police. He will be sentenced July 2.

--  James M. Brayman, 30, of Turf Trailer Park in Clifton Park, had his probation terminated and was ordered to pay full restitution of $4,505. He was convicted of fourth-degree grand larceny in 2005 and had been sentenced to six months in county jail followed by five years on probation.
