Tae kwon do instructor now faces rape charges
ROTTERDAM State Police arrested a Colonie tae kwon do instructor on rape charges Thursday, less than a week after he was arraigned on felony counts of possesing child pornography.
Christopher S. Gallup , 27, of Sand Creek Road was charged with two felony counts of second-degree rape. He was arraigned on the charges in Rotterdam Town Court and ordered held in Schenectady County Jail in lieu of $40,000 cash bail.
Investigators said Gallup raped an individual who was under the age of 15 at the time. A victim came forward about the alleged rape following Gallup's arrest on child pornography and promoting the sexual performance of a child charges in Colonie.
Police said the rapes occurred at a residence in Rotterdam and at a tae kwon do school located in Duanesburg. Gallup allegedly met the victim when he was an instructor at the school, according to police.
Gallup was initially arrested following the execution of a search warrant at his Colonie residence, in which authorities seized several computers and media storage devices that contained child pornography. The investigation started following a tip to the state police Computer Crimes Unit.
Police say the investigation revealed Gallup is active in the tae kwon do community and is believed to have taught in many locations over the past few years. He listed his employment as a cafe worker at Barnes and Noble in Colonie Center.
