— The Empire State Plaza Ice Rink opens today at 11 a.m.

Skating will be held through 8 p.m. Hannaford Supermarkets' "free skate rental Fridays" also starts today, and continues throughout the skating season.

A ceremony will be held to mark the rink's opening.

There is no charge to skate. Skating will be held every day, weather dependent. Skate rental -- other than Fridays -- is $3 for kids under 12 and $4 for skaters 12 and older.

A snack bar will be open Friday nights, weekends and school holidays; a skate lounge with lockers for personal items is now located at the Plaza level; music will be provided.

For more details, including special events at the rink, see Saturday's print and online editions of The Daily Gazette.
