Schenectady man gets prison time for Albany burglary
ALBANY A Schenectady man will spend up to six years in state prison after admitting he stole laptops and video games from a city residence last summer.
Matthew Carey, 21, was also ordered to serve three years of post-release supervision when he was sentenced before Judge Thomas Breslin in Albany County Court on Tuesday. Carey previously pleaded guilty to one felony count of attempted burglary.
Carey entered a residence and stole two computer laptops, approximately 50 video games, and several hundred dollars in cash Police were able to track the stolen laptop to a second hand dealer via GPS software that the owner had installed into the device.
Authorities also recovered the video games, which were sold to a local store. Carey was on parole at the time of the burglary.
