SANDY: Mayor declares state of emergency in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy has declared a state of emergency because of Hurricane Sandy.
Read the entire declaration at the Capital Region Scene.
The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel, use common sense and exercise extreme care around trees and power lines, according to the declaration. People should report downed power lines to the appropriate authorities and be aware of potential flooding.
The declaration of emergency will begin at noon and continue through noon on Wednesday.
