If you would like to get a walk around crowd you need to get a police presence so shoppers feel safe. Even going out on lunch in daylight can be unpleasant. Just my thoughts !

I doubt downtown Schenectady is any more dangerous than Crossgates or Rotterdam Square Mall. Although I live in Rotterdam, I work in downtown, take classes at SCCC, and spend a lot of night-time in downtown. I'm 60+ and feel no threat nor danger. It's more peoples' perception than reality ... mostly opinions from people who never come down anyway. BTW, I am seeing more police presence, plus there are more and more cameras around as well.
The most dangerous part of downtown are the speeders on Erie Boulevard & Nott Terrace/VedderAve.
