Constable Madison Gage died in the line of duty in Amsterdam 130 years ago this month. Last May, Gage’s name was added to the state Police Officers Memorial at Empire State Plaza in Albany. According to research by city Historian Robert von Hasseln, Gage was a town of Amsterdam constable but lived in the then-village of Amsterdam.
