Man critically wounded in Schenectady shooting

SCHENECTADY A man is hospitalized in critical condition after a shooting this afternoon in the East Front Street neighborhood.
Police received a report of a stabbing at 5 Madison St. about 3:30 p.m., according to Schenectady police spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken. Officers responding to the call found a man with a gunshot wound to his torso.
The victim, whose identify is not being released, was treated at the scene by members of the Schenectady Fire Department and transported to Albany Medical Center by Mohawk Ambulance.
McCracken said investigators believe the shooting happened in Apartment 6 at 5 Madison St. about 3:20 p.m.
The investigation also revealed that a infant was inside the residence at the time of shooting but was not hurt and was taken into protective custody by Schenectady County Child Protective Services. Police do not yet know the victim's relationship to the infant.
In the wake of the shooting, officers patrolled the neighborhood, searching for a suspect.
