Basketball: Brothers push record to 16-2

Christian Brothers Academy outscored Bishop Maginn, 16-4, in the second quarteer and went on to defeat the Griffins, 66-42, in a Big 10 boys’ basketball game Sunday.

Dan Owens drilled six three-pointers and finished with 20 points for the Big 10 champion Brothers, who ran their league record to 15-1 and overall mark to 16-2. Greig Stire added 19.

Demere Hannah scored 19 points for the Griffins (7-8, 8-9), who trailed by just two, 17-15, after the first quarter.

St. Johnsville converted 19 of 29 free-throw attempts in a 58-57 victory over Middleburgh in a Western Athletic Conference crossover game at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Kyle Smith had a game-high 21 points for the Saints.

Ryan Bechtole and Brandon Richards each had 13 points for Middleburgh, which made just five of 13 foul shots.

Garrett Pitcher and Tristan Wilson each scored 21 points as Berne-Knox-Westerlo turned back Saratoga Central Catholic, 63-44. Cameron Coons led the Saints with 14 points

Northville used 13 points from Nick Jonas and 11 from Tim Monette to roll past Sharon Springs, 73-22. Monette also pulled down 11 rebounds for the Falcons, who improved to 9-9, while Sharon Springs fell to 0-17.

Nicole Little finished with a game-high 13 points to lead Mayfield to a 51-16 victory over Sharon Springs in a WAC girls’ crossover game.

Middleburgh held Northville to two points in the first quarter, and the Knights rolled to a 53-27 decision over the Falcons. Taylor Cater paced Middleburgh with 18 points.

Rachel Gamache scored 23 points to lead Duanesburg past Can­a­joharie, 58-49. Steph Rice added 22 points for Duanesburg (13-5), and Maddy Keynon had 13. Alexi Kane led Canajoharie with 11 points.
