Keep drone debate going

Text Size: A | A

With last week’s confirmation hearings for John O. Brennan, President Obama’s choice to lead the CIA, and a leaked white paper, a congressional and public debate about drones appears to have begun. It is necessary and long overdue. President Obama has been successful using these new, and radically different, instruments of war, which make it possible to kill our enemies from a great distance by remote control. He has also been successful keeping the program ...

Let's be clear - the American citizen who was targeted encouraged and participated in the planning of attacks on America an his fellow citizens. So, it's acceptable to kill someone who is foreign born but because of the fortuity that another terrorist is born in America requires us to get judge to sign off on it?

Would you be any less dead if an American placed a bomb on a plane you were traveling in?

Let's be clear. If this was going on when Bush was President, this would be front page news every day for months on the Gazette and all the other left wing newspapers. Code Pink and their ilk would be out in full force. But I suspect, the Gazette has said their piece and that will be the last we hear from them on this issue.

albright1, as for code pink as much as I can't stand them, their stance is the same on drones, they are against them and just came out calling for an end to them. Due process and a right to a trial by our peers was so important that it is in the Constitution twice, the 5th and 12th ammendments.

wmarinic, good for code pink then. I suppose the Gazette will have a front page picture of them protesting the drone assassinations tomorrow. What do you think?

The Ends never justify the means when it comes to killing people- no matter who they are. The United States is supposed to be the most civilized country relaying on the rule of international and domestic laws that capture and bring criminals to justice before a court of jury of citizens. The United States is supposed to put human rights above all. How convenient for our govt to kill whoever they want with cowardly drones- how disturbing that any American citizen in this country would accept such a babaric notion. Our country has fallen from grace- we are no better than the supposed "terrorists" the govt seems to label everyone and anyone even if they are just people (like our own civilian Minutemen - attempting to protect themselves and their families from an invading ruthless country. How sad so many little children are being killed at the hands of Americans. Creating more enemies with each senseless death that only destroys families and humanity.

yeah, don't use drones - send in someone's son.

We are no better than the terrorists? We target terrorists because they aim to kill us. If you cannot discern the difference...
