Fonda-Fultonville girls surprise Watervliet

Emily Parslow sank a 15-foot jumper with seven seconds left to cap a big fourth-quarter rally as Fonda-Fultonville stunned Watervliet, 55-54, in a Colonial Council makeup game Thursday night.

Parslow scored nine of her 19 points in the Lady Braves’ 24-14 run over the final eight minutes. Cassandra Egelston had 13 points and five assists for the Lady Braves (6-10, 8-10), Taylor Wetsky had 10 points, and Emily Frollo contributed eight points and nine rebounds.

Watervliet (14-2, 16-2) is the No. 1 seed and defending Class B champion for the Section II tourn­ament that begins tonight.

Watervliet played the game without suspended Lashana Tolliver and lost its second-leading scorer, Mik­ayla DeGuire, to a knee injury in the third quarter. DeGuire left with 12 points, and Ailayia Demand paced the Cannoneers with 18.

Watervliet beat Fonda-Fultonville last month, 81-44.

Connor Brown and James Sacket scored 18 points apiece, and Schoharie salvaged a split in the Western Athletic Conference boys’ tournament with a 70-62 win over Fort Plain.

Evan Ottman had 16 points for Schoharie (13-5), and Brown notched six in the final quarter to help keep Fort Plain (10-8) at bay. Chris Hanifin paced the Hilltoppers with 19 points, Joe Ray had 11 and Marcus Failing had 10.

The two teams had lost in the WAC Cup semifinals.

Alex Hart matched his season-high with 22 points, and Dylan Klock fired in 17 as St. Johnsville (9-9) beat Galway, 68-33, in a WAC makeup game. D.J. Marshall scored 12 for Galway.

The WAC Cup title games are tonight at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The girls’ game at 6 will pit Mekeel Christian Academy (11-6) against Berne-Knox-Westerlo (16-1), and the boys’ game at 7:30 will match Mekeel (15-2) against Canajoharie (15-2).
