Schenectady man pleads guilty to attempted robbery at Crossgates Mall
ALBANY A 19-year-old Schenectady man pleaded guilty in Albany Supreme Court Thursday to attempted robbery and faces the possibility of seven years in prison.
Mushin Butler, 19, pleaded guilty to one county of attempted robbery, second degree, a class D violent felony, according to Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares.
Butler, along with co-defendant Tevin Alvarez, robbed and assaulted an employee who worked in Crossgates Mall. As the employee entered the parking lot, Alvarez grabbed a bag containing a laptop computer from the employee while Butler repeatedly punched the victim in the head with his fist, Soares said.
As Butler and Alvarez were fleeing, the victim gave chase and grabbed onto the car but eventually fell off as the car sped away.
Butler will be sentenced on April 3. Alvarez previously pleaded guilty to attempted robbery in the second degree, and faces five years in prison followed by five years of post- release supervision when sentenced on April 10. Butler also faces post-release supervision.
