Engineers extend winning streak to five

— Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute used three power-play goals to overwhelm Brown, 5-1, Friday night at Houston Field House, and moved into a tie for second place in the ECAC.

The victory was the fifth in a row for the surging Engineers (13-11-5, 8-6-3 ECAC), who have also won seven of their last eight games, allowing just 12 goals in that span.

The Engineers share second place with Yale, which lost to Union, with five games left in the regular season. The Engineers host the Bulldogs in the annual Whiteout game at 7 tonight.

Jacob Laliberte (one goal, one assist) and Matt Neal (two assists) each had two points for RPI, and freshman goalie Jason Kasdorf made 30 saves.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Alexa Gruschow scored a pair of goals in the third period as the Eng­ineers locked up a playoff berth with a victory over the Bulldogs at Ingalls Rink.

Yale had a 2-1 lead early in the third period, but Gruschow scored her 11th of the year at 4:52 to tie the game, and then got the game-winner at 9:06 for the Engineers (10-17-4, 8-9-2 ECAC).
