— Schenectady police are investigating the death of an 8-year-old boy found unresponsive at a home in the Vale neighborhood this morning.

Family members found the child, whose identity is not being released, about 10:05 a.m. at 23 Mynderse St. and called police. The boy was treated on the scene by members of the Schenectady Fire Department and taken to Ellis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to a news release.

Until a cause of death can be determined, police are treating the residence as a crime scene. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted Sunday.

Lt. Mark McCracken said he could not comment on whether the boy had any signs of injury.

Members of the department’s Youth Aid Bureau and Evidence Collection Unit are investigating.
