Since finding a silver bullet (you will pardon the expression) that effectively addresses gun violence has proven elusive at best, elements of laws like the SAFE Act recently passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Cuomo are always and should be open to debate. However, let’s put aside the outrageous canard that the SAFE Act was too hastily conceived and enacted. To hold that ridiculous view, one has to conveniently forget that ...

Canard? Ridiculous? The Safe act was pushed through as fast as possible to make use of a tragedy and further Cuomos political ambitions. Nothing more. Specious “defense against tyranny” principle? I guess that's an easy position for a liberal to take since you're the ones taking over the country. You attack the Constitution daily. You put forth laws to give illegal aliens licenses, citizenship, welfare benefits. Refuse to pass a required Budget, refuse to secure our boarders. Put forth laws to search our homes, steal our land etc etc. You assault our liberty every day we wake up. You believe your supposed intellectual elitism makes you omnipotent and therefore the rest of us have no valid opinion beyond hackneyed ideas. We cant have rational conversations with people who we know are icrementalists. You chip away until you get everything you want and we have nothing. Background checks. no problem with that except you want registration and that will lead to confiscation. A word uttered by Cuomo. Fallacious contentions? Maybe to you, but not to those of us that see you liberals for what you really are, thieves in the night.

Many of us agree with you, Phils. Intellectual elitism, indeed, or so they would have us think! The threat to the republic is from within. I believe this is what our forefathers foresaw when drafting our Constitution. They put into words what they believed to be our God-given rights. Just because the moral supremacists (and I use that term very loosely!) are attempting (and, I hope, are not succeeding) to curtail our personal freedoms does not mean that we do not have these rights. They are not for man to give and take. John, I hope you never have to confront some illegal gun-toting person or persons attempting to infringe on your personal rights; I don't think they'll be impressed with your arguments; they probably won't understand what in the h*ll you're talking about! Maybe you could just, like the VP suggests, fire off a couple of rounds from your shotgun; that'll scare the sh*t out of them!

Another 'head in the sand' journalist and I use the term very loosely. More gun laws to erode the citizen's rights while ignoring the real problems. Politics at its worst! Einstein put it best, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Another 'media' person who thinks he is smarter than the Founding Fathers regarding the Second Amendment.
