Union thwarts bid by Bard, runs men’s record to 13-2

— Senior Evan Croll sank a three-pointer with 32 seconds left to catapult the Union College men’s basketball team to a 63-58 victory over upset-minded Bard in a Liberty League game Friday night at the Stevenson Athletic Center.

Bard, which never led in the second half, cut the Dutchmen’s lead to 58-55 on a layup by sophomore Chris McNaughton with 58 seconds left. Union’s next possession went deep into the shot clock, but Croll took a pass from Matt Petrone and drilled the trey from the right wing to clinch the game.

Senior Keven Donohue scored a career-high 30 points to help the Dutchmen improve to 5-1 in the Liberty League and 13-2 overall.

Bard (1-5, 4-9) was led by Lamar Powell with 13 points.

UNION

POUGHKEEPSIE — Aldin Med­unjanin recorded 20 points, and Connor Merrill scored 12 to spark the Thoroughbreds over the Brewers at AFC Gymnasium.

Kevin Dahill (11) also scored in twin figures for the 4-2, 10-5 Thoroughbreds. Vassar (1-4, 5-9) was led by John Donnelly with 15 points, Erikson Wasyl with 11 and Curtis Smith with 11.

Women

UNION 48, BARD 29

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON —A 13-0 run over a seven-minute stretch in the first half broke open a close game as the Dutchwomen pulled away from the Raptors.

Union, which shot 62 percent from the floor in the first half, improved to 5-2 in the Liberty League and 10-5 overall, while Bard slipped to 1-5 and 7-8.

Kelsey McDonald and Shayla Madden each scored 13 points for Union, which also got nine rebounds from Brittney Kenney.

Freshman Tytravia Riley contributed nine points and 12 rebounds for Bard.

UNION

BOSTON — Alexa Schooley and Kelsey Johnson each tallied 16 points, as the top-ranked Panthers crushed Fisher at Fectau-Leary Gym.

Taylor Sullivan tacked on 10 points for ACP, while Javanna Bernard scored a game-high 23 points for Fisher.

POUGHKEEPSIE — Jordyn Wartts and Molly McLaughlin each scored 18 points to propel the Thoroughbreds over the Brewers in a Liberty League game at the AFC.

Angela Botiba added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Skylar Cal­igaris scored 12 points for the 5-1, 7-8 Thoroughbreds.

Vassar (3-2, 10-3) was led by Cydni Matsuoka and Nyah Berg with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
