Demand sets Watervliet scoring record

Ailayia Demand fired in 19 points to become Watervliet’s career basketball scoring leader, and the Cannoneers held off Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, 48-42, as part of Saturday’s Colonial Council Showcase to benefit the Coaches vs. Cancer program at Voorheesville High School.

Demand upped her career points total to 1,255, and moved past 1993 Watervliet graduate Crystal Carroll (1,252). Demand tied and set the school record on fourth-quarter free throws, and for the game, the senior guard went 12-for-15 from the line.

Mikayla DeGuire scored 15 points for Watervliet (11-1, 12-1), and Kayla Hotaling paced Ravena (7-4, 8-5) with 16, 10 coming in the second half.

Hannah Friend scored 17 points, and Holy Names (11-0, 13-0) used a 16-3 first-quarter run to beat Schalmont, 48-31. Hailee Metzold sparked the Sabres with 19 points.

Emily Parslow piled up 22 points and Monica Derby worked for 20 as Fonda-Fultonville topped Lansingburgh, 69-30. Emelia Brzozowski scored 12 points for the Knights.

Abby Fitzgerald scored 15 points on five three-point baskets, and Cohoes (8-3, 9-4) sank 11 threes in all in a 68-42 victory over Voorheesville. Anna Feller led the Blackbirds with 17 points.

Aubrie Zecca delivered 18 points, Courtney Pingelski had 11, and Mech­anicville (6-5, 8-5) rode a strong first half to a 45-37 triumph over Cobleskill-Richmondville. Hannah Dibble and Erica Tracy both scored nine points for the Bulldogs.

Mary Salo’s putback after a missed free throw with 3.6 seconds left gave Berne-Knox-Westerlo a 55-53 non-league win over Greenville at the Coaches vs. Cancer event at The College of Saint Rose.

Liz Harvey scored 26 points, Salo had 13 and Makayla McCormick had 12 as the Bulldogs (13-1) beat the Spartans (7-6) for the second time this season. Heather Carl scored 19 points for Greenville.

Lindsay Mannion scored 18 points, Sabrina Wolfe collected 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals, and Maple Hill (13-0, 14-1) beat Patroon Conference foe Hudson, 52-27, at Saint Rose.

Boys

Travis Ramsey matched his season high with 16 points, Rick Buser added 10, and South Glens Falls (7-2, 8-4) extended its win streak to four games with a 53-41 Foothills Council victory over Johnstown.

Ricky Mitchell scored 18 points for the Sir Bills (1-8, 2-1), and Jon­athan Heroth netted 13.

Tim Hughes led a trio of double-digit Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk scorers with 16 points, and the Ind­ians (9-4) raced past Greenville, 63-39, in a non-league Coaches vs. Cancer game at Saint Rose.

Mohawks win

Matt DiVietro had a hat trick with an assist, and Lucas Mal­oney also scored three goals to lift Niskayuna/Schenectady past Glens Falls, 8-1, in a Capital District High School Hockey League game.

Maloney scored a pair of first-period goals as the Mohawks (2-6, 4-10-1) opened up a 4-1 advantage.

Mike Mineau scored late in the second period and Sean Phillips tallied in the third to propel Shaker-Colonie over Beekmantown, 3-2, in a non-league game.

Phillips scored in the first per­iod and had an assist on Mineau’s tying goal.

Abbey Nolan and Hannah Tulchinsky scored goals as Albany Academy (9-5, 11-7) skated past Sar­anac Lake, 2-0, in an Upstate New York Hockey League game.
