Firing someone who worked for 24 years and presumably was a good employee seems quite extreme in this situation. Even if the library director disagreed with the decision Ms. Marchione made, she was using her best judgement. Clarify what the procedure is, issue a warning or reprimand if necessary but firing???

How about a counseling memo or an official reprimand first? Going from A to Z in this instance seems very, very extreme.

If stupidity were grounds for dismissal, the board ought to be firing Ms. Sheffer and reinstating Mrs. Marchione; or does she have a sweetheart contract like the (former?) Housing Authority director in Saratoga Springs?
