Leakers are heroes, they hardly deserve to be prosecuted How dare the government prosecute Bradley Manning [June 7 Gazette] and [former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of defense contractor] Edward Snowden [June 13 Gazette], who have done a service to our democracy by bringing to our attention the malfeasance of our government? This is a job that Congress has failed in. The government acts above the law, in the name of security. ...

How dare the residents in Niskayuna vote to keep their homes? They still don't get it. The current property tax rate is too high and any increase is unacceptable. No one else is seeing the out of State buyers that are flocking to Ms. Tepper's neighborhood. Plenty of for sale signs from seniors that fail to "appreciate" Democratic confiscatory taxation. Let them eat cake?

The past two Governors, in order to balanced their budgets, reduces state aid to schools. The Niskayuna school system lost $13 million in state aid in the past four years.
When times were good, legislatures and governors enhanced public pensions in return for public employee support at election time. Now, pension contributions are increasing at about an 8% rate for the Niskayuna school system. These are costs that administrators did not negotiate, but must pass on to taxpayers.
It is the Governor and State legislators who are responsible for your taxes going up, not the Niskayuna School District.

Gina99 is right, these tax increases are straining the budgets of many people and knowing that it may by the governor and legislature who are responsible doesn't make it any less painful.

I recommend anyone who is interested in the story of Edward Snowden, listen to the latest episode of Common Sense. I think you'll find everything he says on the subject to be... common sense. http://traffic.libsyn.com/dancarlin/cswd...

gina99 - not sure what you mean about Democratic confiscatory taxation. But if you mean Democratic as in the political party, Saratoga County is the 194th highest taxed county of the 775 most populated counties in the U.S. And Saratoga is one of the reddest Republican counties in New York. So it's not a political ideological issue about property (school) taxes in New York. People here LOVE big local government regardless of party affiliation.
