How could Gazette editorial overlook Niskayuna Co-op? I was amazed when I opened my June 18 Gazette to see your staff editorial claiming that Schenectady needs a good co-op to supply local products. Where has that person been the past 70 years? How could any knowledgeable person in this area not know about the Niskayuna Co-op? As one of the Gazette’s largest advertisers that supports our local newspaper, you would think that the paper might ...

Gene, is absolutely correct. Taxes are our friend. Without taxes none of our business would survive. We as a human race would simply regress into extinction. What is needed to promote the general welfare of society is not less taxes but more taxes. Think of all the agencies that have been created just to make business in the state and country easy. Look how smart our kids are. Do you think that just happened? No, credit our massive property taxes. Its taxes that allow people to sit at home and do nothing. Its taxes that pay benefits for illegal aliens. Taxes are good for Americans and non Americans alike. Paying more not less is the path we need to be on. The more money we can give to Democrats through taxation, the better off we'll all be.

Phil is right, look at Schenectady, they keep raising the taxes and now we have garbage men that dump piles of trash in front of our homes and don't clean it. We have 50 less police officers because it costs so much money to support the welfare rats from New York City. The high taxes are so great that we are able to take care of more and more drug dealers and move them into homes of people that used to live here. And before you liberal fools attack me for the welfare rat comment, a welfare rat is a person who makes welfare a career not a stepping stone, a welfare rat will ontinue to have children to increase their benefits and to avoid work.

Mr. Whitney still doesn't get it. If higher taxes helped business Schenectady would be a retail mecca with the finest roads, services and schools. High taxes create massive deficits by chasing out businesses, jobs and homeowners. The result is a Schenectady implosion with 800 properties now in tax foreclosure. Gene also fails to mention the tax exemptions which allow government and not the market to pick winners and losers. If you love high taxes and poor services you're living in the right County Mr. Whitney.
