Assembly expected to approve $9 an hour minimum wage

New York’s Assembly is poised to vote on increasing the minimum wage to $9 an hour, putting pressure on Senate’s Republicans who are seeking business tax cuts in a potential legislative deal.

The Assembly’s Democratic majority was expected to easily pass the increase. But closed-door negotiations are under way between Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and the Senate majority leaders.
