When the health insurance company Oxford Companies proposed raising its rates by nearly 20 percent for 2013, the advocacy organization Health Care For All New York sent a letter of protest to the state Department of Financial Services. “HCFANY asks that the Department consider the apparently strong financial health of these companies when examining their proposed rates,” wrote Elisabeth Benjamin, who heads Health Care For All New York, a coalition of 130 organizations. According to the Governor's office New York State residents will save $500 M in health care premiums this year. This is the kind of fuzzy math from government at all levels that should drive every citizen crazy. Never mind that premiums increased by somewhere around $600m this year, we should be happy premiums didn't go up the additional $5ooM. I guess savings are calculated from what it could have been. Good job Mr. Cuomo.
