Pair charged in Colonie after loaded pistol found in vehicle

— Two Albany County men face charges after a traffic stop revealed a loaded pistol and an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, according to Albany County Sheriff’s deputies.

Lorenzo Howard Kornegay Jr., 31, and his passenger, Daquan Charles, 21, were stopped on Albany Street in the Town of Colonie for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law. While conducting the stop, deputies observed the open container of alcohol in the vehicle. Upon further investigation, a loaded Glock 9mm pistol was located in the vehicle. The pistol was loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition and reported stolen out of the City of Watervliet, deputies said.

The pair were charged with the following:

Lorenzo Howard Kornegay Jr., 126 Walter St., Albany:

• Criminal possession of a weapon, second degree;

• Criminal possession of a weapon, third degree;

• Criminal possession stolen property, fourth degree;

• Drinking alcohol on a highway;

• failure to keep right;

• Speed in zone;

• Illegal turn signal.

Daquan Charles, 288 River Road, Glenmont:

• Criminal possession of a weapon, second degree;

• Criminal possession of a weapon, fourth degree;

• Criminal possession of a firearm;

• Drinking alcohol on a highway.

Both men were arraigned before Colonie Town Justice Peter Crummey and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.

always a good idea to drink in the car where you're keeping your loaded, unregistered handgun. good luck to ya.
