Volleyball: BH-BL out on tiebreaker
GLENS FALLS — Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake lost a one-set tie-breaker to conclude pool play, and was denied a spot in the state Division II boys’ volleyball championship match at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Burnt Hills, Bellmore JFK and Victor all went 2-2 in pool play, with Victor advancing based on point differential. Bellmore JFK beat Burnt Hills in the special playoff, 25-15, after building an early 13-6 lead.
In the final pool match, Burnt Hills beat Bellmore JFK, 25-23, but the Cougars of Long Island answered with a 25-22 win in the second set to force the playoff.
Spartans’ senior Austin Nydegger was named to the all-tournament team. Burnt Hills ended its season at 21-3. Victor went on to sweep Bellmore JFK for its third championship in four years.
Bethlehem (26-1) went 1-3 in Division I pool competition and failed to advance for the fourth year in row. The Eagles lost two to Fairport and split with Sachem East.
Fairport swept Sachem East for its first championship.
