State wants to replace Rexford Bridge, will seek resident input

The state wants to replace the aging Rexford Bridge from scratch and install a roundabout at one end, but it wants to get area residents on board with the plan first. The state Department of Transportation is hosting two open houses in coming weeks to give the public an opportunity to review and comment on its plans for the highly trafficked bridge. The experience with the Western Gateway Bridge shows how very important it is for the public and local officials to participate and then monitor the development in the design and construction of a bridge. DOT's lack of common sense and the lack of vigilance by local officials cost us not only a beautiful scenic vista but also very important safety protections for users of the Bridge's sidewalks. If they plan on purchasing property and moving the bridge over, they should consider utilizing the existing space and make a 4 lane road (two lanes each direction) to further alleviate problems and allow for additional traffic in the future.
