After graduating from the University of Kansas in 1981, Dave worked as an intern at The Tulsa Tribune in 1981, then from 1981-89 as a staff photographer. He then worked from from 1989-91 as photo editor at The Reporter in Vacaville, Ca, before coming to The Gazette in 1992.
