An award-winning sportswriter, Phil joined the Gazette in July 1995 after working previously at the Amsterdam Recorder and Troy Record. For the Gazette, Phil covers professional hockey and horse racing year-round at the local, national and international levels. He is a two-time winner of the American Hockey League's James Ellery Award for outstanding coverage, and his work can also be seen regularly in The Hockey News and Thoroughbred Times, both in print and online. During the summer, Phil doubles as a horse racing analyst for Capital News 9.
