I'm a big fan of roundabouts, provided that people actually know how to use them. Maybe that makes me a 'road bully' lol. Outta the way sheep!
Unfortunately, I have to disagree with you about Jumpin Jacks. There was a time when I liked that place. It was when I was young, and didn't know any better. A Schenectady institution, to be sure. An institution of e-coli maybe. The last time I went there, (a few years ago, promising I would never return) I was forced to sit among the disease ridden geese. They will aggressively take the food right off your plate if you don't bravely stand your ground. Their feces is everywhere. You enjoy that sort of dining atmosphere? Yuck. I will never go back, even if they cleaned up their act. Who wants that grease soaked nonsense? I can make a much healthier, better tasting meal at home.
My closest friend is a lifeguard and the supervisor of the YWCA pool where that 7 year old Bronx girl died 2 years ago. He actually wasn't at the pool that day. He just so happened to choose that day to stay back at the office and catch up on some paperwork. But he told me all about the situation.
Even though the pool was properly staffed, having lifeguards is never a 100% guarantee, as you know. And in a pool full of people, it can be even more difficult to spot trouble. It is human nature to want to blame someone for these type of accidents. But often times, as in the case I mentioned, it is simply that: an accident. No one was found to be at fault or negligent. Sometimes these things just find a way to happen, even if it seems quite unexplainable.
Anyway, my friend was obviously upset over the whole situation. It took him some time to start feeling normal again. Being a lifeguard is tough. 99% of your time is spent in boredom, with about 1% in moments of extreme terror. Maybe it's just me, but If my child isn't old enough to swim on his/her own, then I probably wouldn't trust them to swim at a pool without me, even if there are lifeguards on duty.
Geez, what a depressing blog post this turned out to be, lol. Give us something to smile about with the next post, ok?
Making mix tapes was always fun. Although, I never really followed your first rule, "A good mix tape should encompass a range of emotions." I always made my tapes emotion specific. Each tape served a single purpose. Music to celebrate to. Music for post-breakup. Music to hang yourself by, etc. So I guess my main goal was to keep the tape unique and fresh, without straying from the initial purpose of the tape. I suppose more general tapes could have a wide range of emotion, (i.e. birthday tapes like you made) but that was something I never got into.
Something I enjoyed equally as much as putting the music together was the album artwork. I would spend hours on creative visuals, making sure that it represented the theme of the tape. Not only that, but the text too. If I messed up a track listing, or duration, I would have to start over. Making mix tapes was serious business! Lol.
Ever since the IPod, I've stopped making mix tapes. Although, I do occasionally make an MP3 mix on a USB Flash drive and give it to a friend or relative. No album art with that though, and somehow it doesn't seem as personal.
The rich? Um... Damon is the pro at Schenectady MUNY. It only costs $20 to play there for Schenectady residents, and that's during the weekend. That's the cheapest rate I've ever heard of.
This is a tough one. From a business standpoint, Goodell absolutely has to let him play again. Vick's return will bring A LOT of attention (money) to the NFL. I just think it would be a poor business decision not to reinstate him.
That being said, I think dog-fighting is heinous. I believe you'd have to have something seriously wrong with you to take part such an activity. So I'm split down the middle with this one. I'm glad I don't have to make the decision.
Haha, really Rick? The "sub, sub, sub basement?" Lol. That's deep mate. Yeah, that's where I'll be hanging out. Telling jokes with the other infidels. Playing poker, drinking beers, roasting marshmallows with a crimson pitchfork. Good times. You religious folk are harsh!
But seriously, the Center for Disease Control reports that 36,000 people die annually from flu related complications. That's an average of 3000 per month. Ok? That's your normal, run of the mill influenza.
So please tell me why I should be paranoid about 1 swine flu fatality? I'm all for washing your hands, working out, and doing whatever is necessary to keep yourself healthy. But it seems as if theres too much alarmism going on here. People exaggerating dangers and prophesying calamities. At this point, it's a little ridiculous.
