Holding the school district accountable would only harm the children of Schenectady. However, administrators and superioirs of Raucci should be held accountable for their role in the cover-up.
Anyone who has worked in a business with more than 10 people knows the gossip that goes on in the workplace. It is impossible that the district was unaware of these claims. Especially, when one of those people targeted was an administrator.
bellamia4457- You can be sick and tired of SPD in the news, but do they really deserve to be in the news because of this? Once the three officers were cleared of any assault charges, everything should have been dropped. But think of how silly they would look if the city and AG's office took 8 months with these 5 officers suspended and came back with absoloutly no charges. These officers cannot be called criminals. And just because of what you've read in the media on this particular case, I don;t see how you can imply that they are dishonest. They have claimed they did not use excessive force, it was found they did not. They did not fill out a department piece of paperwork, and are now being tried criminally for that.
If they have been found innocent of beating this low-life that should be the end of it. In my line of work when I fail to fill out paperwork properly I may be reprimanded, to face charges is ridiculous. Police officers risk their lives everyday to protect us, it's about time we stand up for them and stop letting the mayor and commissioner destroy their lives.
Students in Schenectady can attend Votec, the Career Center @ Steinmetz or can enlist in Job Corps. Instead of creating another program these monies should be used to support the programs already in existence.
Failed... I think not, understaffed and overwhelmed with calls. I am sure the victim today is uncooperative just like in the past. How is it we expect for officers to make our city safe when there are too few of them and even the "victims" do not provide descriptions of the criminals. This is going to continue to happen until citizens take back their city and be willing to identify the shooters, attackers, etc. Police cannot make arrests and clean up the streets without cooperation from all of the honest hard-working people here.
A person cannot pull the victim card when they willingly put themselves in such danger. Is it not well known that Hamilton Hill is a dangerous area? Why could this gentleman not have walked down the well-lit State St? Even if a police car had been on the Hill at the time this occurred, that doesn't necessarily mean they would have run into what was happening. Is it unfortunate that someone got hurt? Of course it is, but that person needs to be smarter. This is not a situation to blame the police, lets be real. Blame the thugs that did this, and that are taking over the city.
The city needs to stop spending money on beautification and start investing in police. More officers need to be hired to patrol the streets in order for them to be safe. Generally, police cannot keep up with the volume of calls and dispatch prioritizes calls. Quality of life issues like kids misusing playground equipment is not going to get attention when there are calls for break-ins, domestic violence, and shootings.

On Should Schenectady City School District officials be held accountable for the alleged on-the-job misconduct of Steven Raucci?
